132171 / 1967 Shelby GT500

Did you happen to catch the Milton Robson auction in Georgia back in November? This auction of top notch, investment grade cars best summarized the classic car market in 2010. Namely, the best cars are bringing record money. Many were surprised when Robson's 1970 Shelby GT500 Convertible brought 8K, but not us. After all, we sold a 1967 Shelby GT350 Paxton supercharged car earlier this year for 0K, followed up by a 1967 Shelby GT500 automatic for 0K, not to mention a 1968 Shelby GT500KR Convertible for 5K. Anyone who thinks that investment grade cars are dropping in value (we hear it all of the time) are probably the same guys telling you that you were nuts to buy gold at 700 bucks an ounce. The words "investment grade" don't even begin to describe this 1967 Shelby GT500. With its original 428 and 4-speed, a ton of documentation, and a concours-grade restoration, this car was the pinnacle of Ford performance in 1967 and remains the pinnacle of Ford collectability today. As a '67, it was built by the guys at Shelby American in Los Angeles, not in Detroit by Ford, which was the case after 1968.In 1967, it was the fastest, nastiest, most expensive snake you could buy, and that's still pretty much true today. Expensive? Re-read the first paragraph in this article and you decide. But it is very likely one of the most documented Shelby Mustangs on the market today and you will search high and low for a more investment-worthy example. Shelby GT500 number 02110 was ...

Classic Car Values in Today's Market

!±8± Classic Car Values in Today's Market

With prices hitting the silly season about 18 months before every bubble was burst, the LAST thing you want to do is leave money on the table. You would think with all the sources of information, it would be easy. After all, if you want to sell your house now, you can get comps from the MLS from any realtor. Some sellers have not gotten reality and are trying to recoup losses by keeping prices high while others forced to fire sale their cars to cash buyers who can move fast.

There is not just one method in my opinion. In order to get the right range, you need to triangulate on a price using several data points. Go to the traditional sources to get a ball park (many are listed below). I use the NADA guidelines for starters, and then check out Manheim-Gold and Hemmings. Prepare for shock at times because the estimated prices can vary. For example, a recent search for a 1967 Pontiac GTO convertible, original, matching numbers, standard options ranged in Excellent condition from K to K!

And Excellent did not mean #1, show quality where the car is never driven, just stored in a climate controlled environment. Good condition was K to K. Again, quite a spread. When I checked some of the listings (did not drill, just read the specs), many read the same, recent (within 2 to 3 year restoration), matching numbers, many original parts, complete documentation, etc. So, you would have to inspect the cars yourself to see who was blowing smoke. At least you have a data point. Next, check as many classic auto dealers as possible to poll them for recent prices. Many list the SOLD on their website. If not, then call them and tell them what you are looking to buy. They have the pulse of the market and you will be able to zero in on a better sense of reality. Remember that a dealer will be high, maybe even 20 to 25 percent. So bank that information.

Another source is looking at recent car auction results. Sometimes hard to find, there is one site that is helpful is at sports car market dot com. It is a paid subscription site (we have no affiliate association). You can pay by the day, month or year (.00), so a small price to pay for great information. Using these three resources should get you pretty close to what you will pay for your car. The next step is to thoroughly understand the valuation system for classic car cars so you know where your car fits, and consequently how much you have to pay. The rating system below is standard. Excellent: The vehicle in perfect and near-mint condition, either completely restored or an original vehicle with little wear. This is NOT a #1 show quality car that is never driven. Very Good: Solid vehicle with minor scratches or engine and other wear and tear. This car is near perfect and a great driver.

Good: The vehicle has repairable damages and still needs a little effort to restore. The car is a decent driver.

Fair: A vehicle that needs a lot of restoration work. If a car is not drivable because of engine, brake, or other mechanical failures, but has a solid exterior look, it will fall in this category.

Parts car: Not restorable and bought only for its reusable parts.

You may also see ratings such as Low Retail Value, Average Retail Value and High Retail Value. These basically line up to Good, Very Good and Excellent. Lastly, do not forget the many online clubs and forums. There is one thing great about classic car lovers, we all love to talk about our cars. There is a huge collective wisdom out there to tap into. If you want someone to take the hassle out of finding the right car for the right value, then contact Your Dream Car Finder and discover how easy it is, Handy Resources: Google - Manheimgold, NADAGuides or Hemmings Motor News.

Classic Car Parts - How to find hard to find

!±8± Classic Car Parts - How to find hard to find

We all know how had it can be to locate classic car parts when your ready to restore your car. There are a lot of places that sell them, but you don't know if they are reputable parts dealers. You know that you need the parts, but you don't know where to start.

First I would begin by searching your local area, at least you can easily get the information that you need about the business that your dealing with. Hemmings motor news is a great resource, and they are completely reliable, and have been in the business for years.

You can never go wrong when looking for classic car parts to get a copy of Hemmings motor news, most book stores carry it. After you have exhausted both of these options, you will need to scour the web looking for parts, this can get a bit harder to do.

If you have gotten to this stage of the game, you need to research the companies very carefully before you buy from them. This will take some time, you need to check with the BBB, and the local chamber of commerce where the business is located.

Just to help make it a bit easier I will give you a few places that I have done business with, and I know they are reputable companies. First let's go with Year One; this company has been in the business for years, and I have personally done business with them, and found it to be a good company.

Next up is Classic Industries; this is another great company to do business with, I have bought a number of parts from them also. The two companies are a lot alike in what they do, but they do stock a different variety of classic car parts.

If your restoring a truck, I would suggest LMC truck parts for classic truck parts, this is another company that has been in business for a long time. They sell quality truck parts at a fair price, and also Hemmings motor news is great for trucks.

If you look in the right places for your classic car parts you should find exactly what you need, and the quality you need. Searching for parts can be a daunting task, and it is most certainly not the most fun parts of restoring a classic car, but you need to do it to get the job done.

If you take your time, and search for you parts the right way you will be surprised what you can find for your car. I don't recommend the use of used classic car parts for a restoration, the whole idea here is to make the car new again, and you can't do that buying a lot of used parts.

Most companies who sell used parts don't have a great return policy either, generally your just stuck with the parts that you bought. You need to be very careful if you decide to go this route, if you do you will most likely need to refurbish the parts you buy, and you will not save money if this is the case.

Car Restoration - these are the steps that you order will build a very nice car

!±8± Car Restoration - these are the steps that you order will build a very nice car

I know I have done something in the past, something that I will try to deepen the previous article. Remember that this is to know means to cover the entire spectrum on this issue. First of all is that you learn as much as possible before you want to start the project.

Now that I drop things easy, let's dive in head first. Of course, when I say learn as much as possible on the machine before starting the project, I read my magazines and publicationsbased on the steps of the restoration of a car.

Let me outline some of my choices as a reading on the subject. My favorite bar Hemmings Motor News publish any in this book is a wealth of information on this topic. Hemmings also covers parts localization, and many other necessary things.

So, I would say that you should take to publications like Rod & Custom magazine to subscribe, the magazine will also be much easier to knowYour car restoration. I know that sounds like a lot to read, but the more you know, the better it will end, eventually.

I would also like Craft Magazine Car and Hot Rod magazine recommend these great magazines. They are often exposed to a complete construction of a machine, I read many of these questions. They give a lot of good advice and information, you can use.

Finally, the last stage of the reading was a Barnes & Nobel, and get all the books that can be foundBased on the specific machine to be recovered, to stand. This includes the By Numbers The book and everything you see, that focuses on your specific car to use.

This ends the part of the reading process, now assume that you already have the car you want to restore. We can go to the control of the car, starts with the front of the car and work on the back of the car, or you can work from back to front, if you prefer.

During the inspection will beare things that need to be replaced or repaired, they are looking for. What you do here is, to a notebook computer or laptop. Split a page into three sections, the top of your work well in the sections that replace the label of repair, e.

In these sections, you get the parts that belong in each section in the appropriate section. I would also suggest that images of all these parts before removing them from the machine. This will create the first invoice, you can start to buySpare parts for your car.

This will more than likely a huge list of people who can be any part of the car, the grille, taillights. Do not want to miss something, slow down at the end. After completing this, you can move on to the stage of the process of demolition.

During the demolition phase of the process, you will find more parts that need to be replaced or repaired, so keep your list close at hand. Remember never to take too many pictures. ThePhotos will help you replace your car when it goes back together.

At first the process of demolition, I tell you, is one thing, you need a lot of boxes, can not be too many of them. As you pull the car will be boxing for the front-end like the steering, suspension, grille, bumper and label it.

Better to do this part, the easier the car back together, oh and by the way, you will need a lot of plastic bags of all sizes. They areYou also need a boat load of baggage labels are stored in bags that are nuts, bolts, screws and other small things that otherwise lost.

Do not think for a minute that you remember where every nut, bolt and screw came from. I do not care if you have a memory like an elephant, after the car sits for a while ', you forget. I say this from experience, that happened to me in the past.

Now we move Tara blast media stage. This is the stage where wethe car to a media-blasting company. Depending on how much money you have, is the support that you want to use to determine the explosion of the car.

I prefer to skip soda, because it does not damage the metal of the car, a blaster sand, people learning the ropes can ruin your classic car for you. For this reason I intend to use the extra money, he would order soda blast, or acid to move the car.

Both methods are messy to clean for you after you return, you'll be blowing sand, soda orfrom all the small cracks for a while '. Wet with acid, you will find that the cracks on the car too much, all you have to get out there.

If you do not leave sand or soda machine, comes out in your primer and paint. You know, this means that, ugly color, and acid, if you leave the bottom skin in areas that do not clean all the water is to purify the acid.

The next step is to work on the main body, like rust, frame damage, and large bruises. This is the moment when the real work begins. They are cutting, drawing, welding, grinding and so ready to get dirty here.

This phase usually lasts for a time, so be prepared to address properly the issue of hours. After finishing the cut, design, welding and grinding, you can work on the lens body to move. This is the stage where the car starts to look really good.

When you start this levelThe body has to work for the rough work on the body of your car already completed. This means that the body of the car all work areas and should be ready for muddy sand paper 40.

In finishing work platform body is working to complete the body. What this means is that you will continue downloading new scraper, where needed, and the completion of this work tool 80 sand paper files on the longer side on board, you can find.

It is necessary to control the body's silent work areas for eachonce in a while. You can use this by placing a cloth on the hand, and it works through your body to do the work area. The reason why I say, is simply a cloth that feels the job just as well.

The next step is a little metal polish, apply to your body, work areas, this is a more subtle type of filler for dents and very small waves developed. After applying the glaze, you can complete rod 180 grit sandpaper.

After the entire car to 180 sandpaper on a hand-finished board. Are you ready for the first phase of the primer. If you have a lot of bare spots, I'd suggest starting with a primer before moving on the bottom of urethane.

I always want to give any type of fund of at least 24 hours to dry. After the primer has dried you can beat it lightly with some 600 grit wet sandpaper, then spray the entire car with three coats of urethane primer high, wait 15 minutes between coats for the flash time.

That's it for this article, will cover theSanding of the primer in another article. I hope this has helped some of you.

Searching For Classic Cars for sale

!±8± Searching For Classic Cars for sale

In the fall of the market today there is more classic cars for sale than ever. Due to bad circumstances, many owners of vintage cars are forced to sell their goods. Among private seller listings of classic car dealer ads, car ads auction, can be almost overwhelming. Here are some general tips that will help you through the process are.

1 Zero on which car you want, or at least in a number of years. For example, before I bought my 1962 Corvette, I wasresearched between 1958 and 1962. That narrows the box. Then, after a while 'I opted for the 196 262 and it was much easier!

2 Decide on the conditions of the car. Show cars, car design, solid pilot, gamma, etc. formal evaluation by excellent auto parts, and each is priced accordingly. If you want a good condition 1967 GTO convertible, you probably have a car that needed work, mostly small, was well maintained and had a decent restoration at any given time. The car, aswould be a solid driver and probably not too difficult to achieve in very good condition (almost perfect, great driver). With this information, along with some of the many websites dedicated vehicle, simply type in the 1967 Pontiac GTO to go to Google and start reading. Tons of information on the standard options, vehicle identification number decoding, and the things you should now. Many of these sites are to sell books, very detailed information that you have learned a lot of professionals do not even know. Take one or two. E 'money well spent. They should form an idea of different pricing guides, which are the values for your car. If you have not booked on the forum you are looking for your car, now is a good time to start. You can get good information.

3 The next decision is the geographical distance you are looking for your car. Some just look in their backyard, others have no problems with distance. Decide your needs and plan accordingly. If you have a list from a private sellerRejection is your friend. Sounds strange, but it is necessary to improve the quality or move quickly as a legitimate seller o.

How many know that the machine? You should be armed with the VIN, Trim and numbers on the rear axle, so you can quickly determine the car is original, or that the seller does not know. They have a lot of images showing the details? If not, then demand more. If the seller hedges, they can actually have a car. Digital cameras are cheap and there isReason why some may be taken. Their version of the well may not be the same as Hemmings Motor News. If the seller has proper documentation and authentication? For example, cars or GM had Protecto plate, glued to a metal plate in the credit card user manual VIN, Trim days and decoding unit. When the car was put into operation, the retailer would have a copy. That's how they turned the authentic self If the seller wants to sell is a deposit orCar to someone else, then this is a red flag for me anyway. I understand under the skin in the game, but someone sending a few hundreds or thousands of dollars unseen site is not realistic. If the car seems ok, then agree to have it checked. Once you have control, you can make a decision. First you need to know that the seller has the car really! Secondly, you know what it's worth. It may cost $ 200 for walking, but better than buying the wrong car. If you are with the retailers, gothrough the same questions. It is recommended that all the information at hand. Once you know that many traders do not update their targeted list. You can view your car for sale and when you call, oops, it is sold. Want to go to find it for you though. The call. If you can get a good feeling it's worth it. Do not enter into an exclusive agreement in which it is bound. Bad idea. If you use eBay all the above applies. There is fraud everywhere, and it is necessarybe careful.

If you do not want to spend time with scammers and flakes off your car finder dream of doing the heavy lifting. We know cars, where they are, and can find you and your car safely.
